KeystoneREN, Pennsylvania’s hub for research and education networking, recently entered into a new agreement to provide Penn State with 100 Gigabit Internet2 connectivity through a new network point of presence in State College, Pa. This arrangement streamlines a portion of Penn State’s national network connectivity to more efficiently and cost effectively scale and adjust this aspect of the enterprise network.
Leveraging Internet2’s dedicated network connections to the cloud, this agreement provides the University with the best available access and capabilities to support the institution’s increased network demands for research and education.
“Penn State is excited to bring this 100G connection in-state and further the partnership with KeystoneREN,” said David Horton, Penn State’s vice president for information technology and chief information officer. “Our research enterprise reached a record $1.34 billion in fiscal year 2023-24. Creating efficiencies to support this growing source of innovation, while reducing costs and adding performance, is integral to the University’s success and mission.”
The 100G connection will increase Penn State’s capabilities to collaborate with partner institutions around the world by sharing information, data and learning more rapidly and securely. It also improves connection redundancy while enhancing cloud service connectivity.
“KeystoneREN is pleased to provide Penn State with the best possible network performance and 100G connection capabilities augmenting its existing cyberinfrastructure environment. As Pennsylvania’s modern land grant university, and a leader in statewide and global AI initiatives, Penn State drives network and data driven innovation across key areas of focus including agriculture, engineering, and computer science. KeystoneREN is proud to continue its partnership with Penn State to support world class research and education,” said Grant Dull, executive director of KeystoneREN.
